Installation at my studio in Ashkal Alwan, Beirut Lebanon, July 2020. Broken anti-riot glass, gas canisters

A Movement (2020)

Over 100 pounds of broken anti-riot glass, stacked into a fragile structure held apart by the force of gravity and the interlocking teeth of fractures. Heaped onto wheeled circles.

In October, 2019 revolutionaries broke the glass of sky scrappers near Martyrs’ square in Beirut. In March 2020, the government used the excuse of Covid to remove the tents and protestors. What remained were the stacks of broken glass. I brought this glass into my studio as the product of a regime that remains despite refusal; the more is it broken, the more flexible.
